7 events happening this weekend in Seoul that we think look cool February, Week 1.

We've been a little quiet as of late with various life-related things getting in the way. But we're back with our list of must-do events happening in Seoul this week.

Thursday

Yuksek live

Pierre-Alexandre Busson, better known as Yuksek is one of France’s leading electronic music produces. His house inspired brand of nu-disco has been making waves since the days of his emergence in the early 2000s. This Thursday he’s appearing live at Contra Seoul.

Yuksek’s cool-yet-upbeat sound draws on Busson’s genre-smashing influences. As well as house and disco inspirations, Yuksek takes a lead from the world of electro, indie and even classical.

He’ll be backed by a cool lineup of support DJs such as Apromani, Ligrye, Stopplayin and the awesome FFAN.

If you can get out on a school night this week, this is not to be missed.

Thursday 8th February, 10.00pm, Contra Seoul.

Friday

Palmbeach Wasted Youth Club Farewell Show

We’re huge fans of Palmbeach Wasted Youth Club here. The two EPs the R&B-influenced producer has released so far are among our favourites to come out of the Korean scene in the last few years.

So it’s with a heavy heart that we see the project being put on hiatus.

This weekend PBWYC will be saying goodbye in style with a live show at Studio Zemi. Show your support and listen to some great music at this event.

Friday 9th February, 7.00pm, Studio Zemi

Fresh Friday

The Fresh Friday crew will be back this weekend bringing you the best in hip-hop, R&B, new jack swing, disco, funk and more.

Featuring sets from Benza, Truth, Skeme and the awesome Sean Soul, the night will be a lively affair full of dance floor madness. These guys are absolute legends around the Itaewon nightlife scene, famous for their beat-heavy, urban-driven party anthem sets. What’s best is that this is going on until very late so come and dance until the break of dawn.

Friday 9th February, 11.00pm, Venue Seoul.

Acid Willoughby Vinyl-only DJ Night

...And speaking of awesome DJ lineups, this one is a peach.

The Acid Willoughby nights were a big part of the end of 2017 and they’re returning this weekend for the first time this year.

Spinning at this vinyl only night will be C’est Qui/Willoughby’s own Closet Yi. Closet Yi’s eclectic mixes fuse her love of acid and house music together with a focus on experimentalism,

Also featuring will be Odd J. He owns the very cool Clique Records so expect a set full of unique sounds.

Mystik resident DJ Antwork and Honey Badger Rec’s JNS and Blowcut will be filling out this lineup.

Saturday

Balming Tiger Mixtape Launch

Earlier this month, Seoul-based hip-hop collective Balming Tiger released their debut mixtape and it’s absolutely amazing.

The group, which features some new faces and some more familiar ones (remember this Keith Ape cover?) put out their inaugural release recently. It’s a bizarro blend of southern style hip-hop, ethereal beats and unique vocal styles that catch you off guard. We'll be posting a full review soon.

This weekend they’ll be releasing the record properly with a live show featuring some of the group's rappers and some awesome guest DJs.

Saturday 10th February, 8.00pm, The Henz Club

C’est Qui presents: Beesmunt Soundsystem

The awesome team behind C’est Qui house nights are returning this weekend with a very special guest; Dutch production duo Beesmunt Soundsystem.

Beesmunt Soundsystem have been behind hits by the likes of DekMantel, ADE, CHURCH, Just Jack and more. On top of this, they produce their own deep-as-fuck house music. Their fantastic 2017 Aqua Coma EP delved more into their retro-centric influences with a vintage disco inspiration surfacing.

They’ll be backed up with the “proper groovy” Japanese DJs CYK. These guys are a loose collection of Tokyo-based DJs and promoters who list their one driving philosophy as “we simply love to draw partygoers into exciting, immersive dance spaces.”

As always, Naone Ha and Closet Yi from the C’est Qui team will also be playing.

Saturday 10th February, 11.00pm, Contra Seoul

Jin Kim's Jazz Momentum live

Itaewon’s premier jazz venue Boogie Woogie continues it’s marathon live band run this weekend with one of our favourite Korean jazz groups.

This Saturday, Boogie Woogie will be closing out a 14 night run of live jazz bands that has some fantastic names play at the venue. Never one to do things by halves, BG will be closing with one of the country’s coolest acts - Jin Kim.

If you follow KSM regularly, you’ll know we’re huge fans of Kim’s high-tempo bebop style. He’s one of the leading names in Korea’s small but visceral bebop jazz scene. If you like your jazz with a bit of a kick, you’ll love this!

Saturday 10th February, 11.00pm, Boogie Woogie Seoul
