5 events happening this weekend in Seoul that we think look cool January, Week 2.

As always, we've ploughed through the long list of events happening in Seoul this weekend, filtering out the infinite language exchange meets and the never-ending two-for-one wing nights to bring you the 5 things that we think look awesome.

It's another music-heavy list this week with disco DJs and live bands being at the forefront of stuff you should check out.

Thursday

Homeshake Live

Gimbab Records continue to blow the competition out the water with their great run of live shows. In recent months they’ve brought Japanese Breakfast, Mile High Club and Chris Cohen to Seoul. This week they’ve got the very cool Peter Sager project HOMESHAKE performing.

Sager made his name for himself as Mac DeMarco’s touring guitarist but has been out on his own as HOMESHAKE since 2014. His RnB inspired brand of lo-fi indie pop has been lighting it up the critical world with 2015’s Midnight Snack album a particular highlight.

He’ll be playing in Seoul this weekend. Tickets are a little pricey but if you can stretch to 66,000 won you won’t regret it.

Thursday 11th January, 8.00pm, MUV Hall.

Friday

Treehouse Reboot

We haven’t seen any Treehouse events since back in October but it’s a new year, they've got a new venue and a new sound for the reboot happening this weekend.

The incredibly busy DJ Jesse You (who appears in this list twice this week and at least once most other weeks…) will be hosting a night of darkwave disco madness.

Joining him will be the awesome Baxa who has been filling floors with his upbeat disco house between here and Berlin.

The event is 10,000 to get in but is free before midnight. We’re DEFINITELY going to be at this so come and say hello.

Friday 12th January, 10.00pm, Pistill

Dead Buttons Live

Whenever there’s a chance to see Dead Buttons you should absolutely take it. This week’s show at Idaho is free entry, so there really is no excuse.

Garage-rock had a great 2017 with their blistering second album rabbit. The album saw the band really build on their sound, pulling it in different directions until it becomes a shapeshifting beast of brutal beauty.

This Saturday they’ll be playing at Idaho. The show is free entry though the option to make a donation (of which the band receives 100% is available).

Friday 12th January, 9.00pm, IDAHO.

Saturday

Kitsuné & Veuve Clicquot Club Night

International indie music label and fashion label Kitsune has been slowly turning Seoul into its second home. A regular series of much-loved club nights have seen Kitsune become a firm favourite on the local scene.

This week they return with another instalment of their very cool events. As always the lineup is a solid mix of local names and acts from further afield.

Of the 5 confirmed acts, 250 is the one we’re most excited to see. The bonkers DJ/Producer team 250. These guys make hyperactive dance music with almost sickeningly sweet melodies. Imagine getting a pound of sherbet injected straight into your brain and you’re kind of close to the 250 sound.

Other acts include Cyril Hahn, DJ Someone, FRINK and Kitsune regular Glen Check.

Saturday 13th January, 9.00pm, Glam Lounge

Downtown presents: 5ive

Downtown is a DJ and events duo made up of the awesome combination of JesseYou and Airbear. These two have been lighting it up recently with the brand of eclectic, disco-infused grooves.

The pair first joined forces under the name Downtown back in March. Since then they’ve been putting on big parties with some awesome DJ names from around the world.

This Saturday, Downtown will be hosting one of Tokyo’s most-loved DJs 5ive. Just like the downtown boys, 5ive's sound is difficult to pin down. He plays an eclectic and unique mix of stuff you’ve almost certainly never heard before. The original music styles are mixed with floor-filling bangers to make a really singular party atmosphere. Don’t miss it!
