5 events happening this weekend in Seoul that we think look cool - November, Week 1.

As always, there's a plethora of quality events happening in Seoul this weekend. So many that the main problem is deciding which ones to go to. As usual, we're here to help. Scouring through the dozens and dozens of things happening this weekend and choosing 5 that we think stand out.

Drinks For Puerto Rico Charity Event

The very awesome guys at Part Time Cooks have aligned themselves with House of Red Rock to organise a charity event to raise cash for those affected by the recent disaster in Peurto Rico.

Hurricane Marie was a hugely devastating natural disaster causing untold damage to the lives of the people of Puerto Rico, Dominica and Virgin Islands. Global Giving are working hard to raise funds to help these people get back on their feet by providing food, water, emergency supplies and more.

Local hip-hop legends Part Time Crooks are collaborating with Global Giving and House of Red Rock to put on a show and generate some donations. As well as an open mic hour for any unearthed talents out there, there’ll be a huge lineup full of performers and DJs.

This is a great way to get entertained while helping out a great cause.

Flash Sale at Clique Records

Our buddies over at Clique Records have very recently announced a flash sale on huge chunks of their stock.

Don’t be mistaken, Clique Records are not your average record store. You won't find second hand copies of No Jacket Record or 35 different copies of Frampton Comes Alive. You’re far more likely to get a limited edition copy of some calypso infused French electro-dub. In a good way.

The sale this weekend sees as much as 50% off with some items as low as 1000W!

Marco Shuttle Live

Italian-born techno experimentalist Marco Shuttle has been bobbing around Europe, lighting up parties with his exploratory minimalist fusion.

His 2017 release Systhema has “contradiction” woven into its very essence, managing to be both stripped down and incredibly deep at the same time. Welding layers of haunting textures together, the album also tiptoes the lines of claustrophobia and agoraphobia giving the collection a “lost in space” feel.

Shuttle is in the middle of a worldwide tour which sees him make several stops in Asia. He’ll be coming here this weekend.

Voyager II

Back in August, a new night was launched showcasing the deeper side of disco with a cool collection of local DJs. It’s returning this weekend for it’s second installment and is bringing in some new faces.

Heading up the lineup will be the events organiser Seoul-based DJ Moniker. Producing an alternative disco style sound, Moniker fuses all kinds of sounds into his sets – from very contemporary house sounds to a more old school afrofunk vibe. He keeps it chilled out and atmospheric and is worth the entrance price alone.

He’ll be backed by Baxa and Jesse You, both of whom played the first Voyager. Making an appearance this weekend will be FFAN who’ll be playing Voyager for the first time.

Speaking of Jesse You – they’ll also be appearing at the Reggae not Reggae night this weekend and you can find that here.

Grey Watson and Tierpark live

This week, the very awesome Grey Watson will be debuting his new band Grey Watson with the Wolf Pack. American-born expat Grey Watson has been knocking around for a few years now playing in various bands in Seoul. Last year he released his very, very good debut solo album, Ruins. The 10-track album was one of the best things to come out of the scene last year, fusing blues and garage rock and other facets of indie with some very juicy songwriting.

They’ll be playing this weekend with the Tierpark. The energetic, post-rock four piece released their first album back in 2013 and have been regularly putting out experimental, dreamy noise since.

The icing on the cake is that this gig is completely free so there's no excuse to miss it!
